In a spirit of collaboration and fellowship, Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County works with individuals, institutions, faith organizations, businesses, and the Habitat families themselves to build simple, decent, energy efficient, and affordable housing for those living in substandard conditions in our community.

Thrivent Financial commits $12 million to Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity partnership

For the tenth consecutive year, Thrivent Financial is committing millions to stabilize, strengthen and secure communities in 2015 through its unique partnership called Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity.

Thrivent Financial announced that in 2015 it will fund the construction and rehabilitation of 121 Habitat for Humanity homes in the U.S. through the Thrivent Builds Homes program. Funds will also support the Thrivent Builds Repairs and Thrivent Builds Worldwide programs. From the partnership’s inception in 2005, Thrivent and its members have now committed more than $213 million and more than 4.4 million volunteer hours.

The partnership consists of three programs with Habitat for Humanity: Thrivent Builds Homes, Thrivent Builds Repairs and Thrivent Builds Worldwide. These programs allow Thrivent to partner with Habitat and families with limited resources in the construction, repair and rehabilitation of affordable housing in communities across the United States and abroad. More than 4,000 homes have been built or repaired with the Thrivent Builds programs since 2005.

Habitat for Humanity’s relationship with Thrivent Financial brings the financial, volunteer and advocacy resources of Thrivent Financial together with the affordable housing construction leadership of hundreds of local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. During the past five years, this integrated effort resulted in the construction of nearly 1,500 homes in the United States, which engaged approximately 450,000 volunteers who contributed nearly 3 million volunteer hours toward the effort.

The need for affordable housing in Montgomery County is huge!  This program provides Lutheran Congregations an opportunity to help!  Here is how:

  1. All the Lutherans in Montgomery County share in the fundraising to pay for the construction/renovation of the house being worked on.
  2. All the Lutherans in Montgomery County share in the time and effort to do the work of construction and renovation.
  3. We work side by side with the family who will be living in the home once it is complete.
